Remedial Massage Therapy

Massage is probably the oldest therapy known to mankind, almost every culture has developed its own style of massage.

Remedial massage is the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue structures (muscles, connective tissue, etc) in order to release those structures so the whole body can operate more freely, in the short term this helps to relieve aches and pains etc.  In the long term this gives you a buffer zone which will help you recover more quickly from stressful situations, illnesses, injuries, etc.

Massage is a natural tranquillizer, stroking the body slows the heartbeat, lowers the blood pressure and is the fastest most effective way to relax.  But massage is also invigorating, it improves the functioning of many of the body’s systems, promotes healing and tones the muscles leaving you with a feeling of renewed energy.

The style of massage used is robust, getting deep into the tissues and working out the tension to the bone. Massage in Kent

Effects of massage

The Circulation and Lymphatic System

By dilating the blood vessels massage increases the circulation of blood throughout the body.   This means that an adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients can be supplied to all areas of the body helping it to be healthy and to function properly.

The lymphatic system drains and eliminates the waste products that accumulate from the natural functioning of the body.  But unlike the blood circulation this system is pumped round by the action of the muscles which squeeze the lymph vessels.  Massage can help to drain the vessels more efficiently and encourage more effective filtering and elimination of the waste products, thus it aids in strengthening the immune system.

The Digestion

Massage helps to mobilize the digestive system and therefore the process of assimilation and elimination are improved.  The digestive system is quick to respond to stress and the reduction in tension and anxiety which comes from regular massage helps to calm and regulate the digestive system.

The Muscles

When a muscle is tight blood cannot flow as easily through it, depriving the muscle of the nutrients that it needs to repair itself.  Regular massage reduces the tension in the muscles and aids the healing process.

The Nervous System

The nervous system is soothed by slow, rhythmic massage which can help insomnia and stress related conditions.  Brisk massage can stimulate the nervous system and can help lethargy or fatigue from excess work or sporting activities.

The Skin

Massage increases the blood flow to the skin and this in turn nourishes the collagen fibers and the sweat and sebaceous glands.  This helps the skin maintain its elasticity and keeps it moisturised.
